The Late Mother Frances Seesee Nyohn Worjloh Thomas Mayson
The Remains of the Late Mother Frances Seesee Nyohn Worjloh Thomas Mayson, were flown to Toboryen (Lexington), Sinoe County on September 10, 2015 after funeral services was held at the S.T. Nagbe United Methodist Church in Monrovia.
Mother Mayson was an Avid reader of the Daily Observer Newspaper; she arranged a special delivery with her newspaper boy Winston to deliver her paper every morning. After about a week of reading her newspaper she would give it to the Market Women at the ELWA Market to use it to wrap up their market products for their customers.
The Late Mrs. Frances Mayson was born on February 15, 1919, in Greenville, Sinoe County. Her father, Daniel Thomas, who migrated from Freetown, Sierra Leone to Sinoe County, Liberia, served as Commissioner of Sasstown Territory and Mayor of Greenville City, respectively. He was later elected as a Member of the House of Representatives from Sinoe County. Her mother, Agnes Mombo Thomas, who was later in Life affectionately called Old Lady Mombo, was a baker with reputation for a variety of breads. Both parents were devout Christians who loved their Church, The Episcopal Church. However, Mother Mayson became a staunch member of the S.D. Mayson United Methodist Church, Sinoe County and finally with the S.T. Nagbe United Methodist Church, Sinkor Monrovia.
Her parents predeceased her. Mrs. Frances Mayson was one of five siblings including Leticia, Daniel, and Theophilus, all of whom predeceased her. Her only surviving brother, William Thomas, is 93.
She attended the private school run by the famous S.J.C. Davies in Greenville, Sinoe County. She graduated Dux of her class. She won many honors, including the honor of reciting the Declaration of Independence from memory and the honor of unfurling the Flag of Liberia’s Flag Day.
She was married to Rev. Samuel D. Mayson who was commissioner of Tchien, now Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County. This union was blessed with four children: Ambassador/Professor Dew Tuan-Wleh Mayson, Mrs. Emily Guegbeh Peal, Captain Samuel Geeplah Mayson, and Dr. Robert Poka Mayson.
The Late Frances Mayson served the People of Liberia as a school teacher for over 30 years. The fruits of her sacrificial and dutiful tutoring are to be found in the large number of successful men and women, who having passed through her tutelage, are now making important contributions to Liberia’s development.
The Late Mother Mayson was a humanitarian with strong convictions and a robust social conscience to match. She believed every child deserved equal opportunity.
